Ross Wilson: Guestbook

G'day Ross. After your (fun) concert in Hobart last month (March 2010) you made comments about the hit value of the phrase 'na na na'. In your impressive list of songs, you left out Madder Lake's 12lb Toothbrush. Hope this helps!

Hi Ross,
I'm one of your younger fans. I was born in the wrong decade it seems.
I noticed you'll be helping to close the Bluesfest in Byron. Unfortunately I'll miss you as I have a ticket for the Saturday. Are you playing anywhere else in Byron around that time, before or after the Monday?

My Husband and I saw Mondo Rock at the Palms at Crown and had the BEST night, We saw Dr Carl and Glenn Robbins out the front dancing so we joined in. We live in Hobart now and we've just come back from the 2nd Petrusma Property concert at Wrest Point that we snuck into. Upon arrival we went to the entrance door that someone had just opened and there were a few people standing around so we joined them, front row, second level, and had a ball !!!!!! (thanks Petrusma Property!)

Ross, you are one of the most talented guys to come out of the land of oz, if not the world. Primal Park is one of my fave Mono Rock tracks and Eagle Rock is up there with Friday On My Mind as one of the best two songs in Oz rock history.
Keep up the good work mate.

Had a great time last night at your Lizotte's gig in Lambton. Band...great. Mr Ross Wilson ..... excellent. As you would expect, well known hit after well known hit performed perfectly.... but with enough of a twist to keep it fresh and exciting.
David Jackson
February 21, 2010
Caught you last night at Lizottes, you sound as good as ever, great show. Reworking the classics works. Looking forward to your return.
I meant to ask you after the show how was Tamworth? I would have gone but arrived one day after your show was finished. Bring back Country & Wilson

I was exhausted after dancing at Festivale! The energy I had for dancing in the 70's returned in full force and for me THE song was Daddy Cool - i was still singing it all the way home. We were blown away by your energy and exceptional performance - keep on rocking!

Hello Ross,
Were we a bit of a hard crowd last night at the Cube? It was probably the full moon... I almost got to see you at the State Theatre in November (as my birthday treat), but missed out, so I was delighted that you could play here. The band sounds wonderful, as does your voice. Thanks again, Chrissoula

Well I got to say you're a man of your word Ross, you told me about 4 years ago you'd record "I come in Peace", of course I thought you were just saying that, but there you are!

Went to concert at Mingara last night. What a fantastic show. Had front row seats. First saw Ross Wilson 37 years ago at a place called Countdown in Adelaide. He was great back then and still is today. I purchased the Tributary CD last night and love it. It is autographed so it makes it even more special.

Hey Ross,
Thanks for the awesome show at Harbord Diggers. From Peppers at Box Hill in the 70's to the Diggers in 2010, just gets better. These days my back goes out more often then I do, and we both did, doing the Eagle Rock. We had the best time...come back again !! Peter and Marie

G'day Ross,
I had a great time in Tamworth last week at your two excellent gigs. As usual, people kept commenting on what an excellent performer you are. My wife and I were also blown away at the State Theatre concert late last year. The big venue had a different feel to the smaller ones but both types were fantastic in different ways. It was interesting to see you and your special guest on Wednesday night warming up, sharing vocals on "Loves Journey", it sounded briliant ! That song sounds better every time I hear it. Looking forward to the new album soon (...showing my age aren't I, should I say "CD" ?). Any news on when we might expect it would be great.
Mark Shepherd.

Hey Ross, you were so in the zone last night at the Diggers club. Loved the State Theatre gig but last night is the environment I love to enjoy your music most...huge fun..took a friend (more like dragged a friend) who told me he would sleep through it all.....stayed awake for the whole gig and even got up and danced ...and then pronounced what a legend you were....hello...!!!

Hey Ross
Just a note from a 47'er ageing bass basher . . . what a year . . . elton, bowie, wilson . . . and most importantly moi!!! :)
Caught you guys at Sharks Victoria Point . . . what a great show!!! Loved the energy and great sound . . . .
We played a gig with you in about 1971 (I think) it was at SCG and the Kinks were the main act . . . altho you guys blew everyone away and stole the show . . . we were called Flake and had a quick up and down trip to the top 10 for a year . . .aaah fame . . how fleeting!!!
Anahoo, just joined your email list and thought I'd say hi . . .still playing duo work, but thought of retiring into the rock&roll sunset, but as your only 3 months younger, maybe I should keep draggin the old bones out for a few more summers . . . keep up the good work!!
PS . . .one of my 1st records was "When" by the Kalen Twins and the other side was "3 O'clock Thrill" . . .it blew me away when I heard DC do a version . . . great stuff!!
Cheers

We were blown away at Friday night's performance at the Caloundra RSL. Fantastic performance by a superb entertainer and a great band. I was only disappointed by the lack of under 30s in the place. Where were all the young, passionate music fans? They need to connect with Australian music history before they can create their own music. Mondo Rock had the sleekest, coolest sound and nothing was missing from Friday's concert.

Hi Ross, My name's Nigel from adelaide and i met you 9 years ago after the governor hindmarsh gig which was fantastic. I got your recent cd's plus excellent Daddy Cool (yours truly) dvds. Just wondering if there are plans to remaster the 'chemistry','mondo nuovo',modern bop','boom baby boom' & 'why fight it' albums with bonus tracks like b sides etc? One of my faves is 'dark secrets'. Anyway, I hope you and your family had a great xmas and happy new year and i look forward to see you live in Adelaide again and hear new songs from you cos you are still the boss and no one does the eagle rock better than you. Thank you for the music.

I was born in Manchester, England in the mid 50's, so I grew up with the best the Brits had to offer, I have seen them all, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Moody Blues, The Kinks, Queen, U2 etc, etc...BUT it wasn't until I came to Australia and found Daddy Cool that I really went ' W.O.W. ' and then the best of the best ' Mondo Rock ' when I saw them at the Countdown re-union tour I prayed to God that Ross would sing what I personally consider THE BEST SONG EVER WRITTEN IN MUSIC HISTORY...' Come Said The Boy ' when the opening bars started, I burst into tears... I have had a massive crush on Ross Wilson for 30 years and I again pray to God that one day I will get to meet this great, great so talented man, in closing can I just say that as far as I am concerned... ' Come Said The Boy ' should be the National Anthem of Australia.... Rock on Mondo Rock... Merry Christmas sweet Ross and the rest of the band and have a fantastic 2010, Love, Peace and Happiness always in all ways, xxxx your biggest fan in OZ, June xxxx

hi ken,
i don't usually engage in a dialogue on the guestbook but your entry is an interesting one that raises the issue of where we get our inspiration from. in this case, no cupie doll. sorry, i don't recall ever hearing 'teenage darling'. your ears don't actually deceive you because we all rcvd inspiration from the same sources that Fleetwood Mac did - i.e. old doo wop, blues, and R&B. 'guided missiles' was a song DC covered from a black 50s R&B group The Cufflinks - 'i'll never smile again' was written in the 40s, the first version done by Sinatra & the Dorsey band - DC heard the 'Ink Spots' version & built on that. Doo Wop typically uses a 1-to relative minor-4-5 chord structure, so a lot of the songs sound similar. blues is 1-1-4-1-5-1, a 12 bar thing so that all sounds similar too. check out some old doo wop and you'll see what i mean. In fact I encourage everyone to seek out the original sources cos they are so great.
cool yule, ross

Hi Ross,
First saw you in Daddy Cool at Peppers (Box Hill Town Hall) on New Years Eve 1970.
Many times since.
I have just found your inspiration for several of the songs you wrote in Daddy Cool, its a song called Teenage Darling on a "Fleetwood Mac Live" (PKD3151, on Pickwick), a live CD of the original Fleetwood Mac. I can hear bits of Guided Missile, I'll never smile again, and others. Also has a similar style of singing to what you used.
All the best,
Ken

Hi Ross
Re John Lee Hooker, I was reading that you missed the chance to meet him. I first met John Lee in 1962 in the artists bar at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester England and he bought the drinks. I ended up playing harmonica with him, just the two of us, at a couple of venues. He loved people and a great guy.
I have more stories to tell if you care to email me.

Just wanted to pass on my sincere appreciation to Ross for your recent clinic with Gibson in Adelaide.
Its inspired me to take up guitar again since putting the strings down to chase girls...gets a bit expensive going through 2 splits and starting over...
Great to see and hear you talk about how you put together your songs, a bit about your past experience in the music industry, you're one cool dude...
Thanks mate, all my very best to you mate, and merry xmas

Hi Ross,
I bought your 5 Decades Dvd through Aztec music. Great performance, it captured many feelings from long summer nights I had & brought back many memories, especially in 'Come Said The Boy', by Eric McCusker.
I missed your 5 Decades show and regretted it ever since.
Found out you were performing locally while chatting to Mike & Bill (Rudd & Putt) after a recent Gig, & looked up your website to see that you are appearing at Alfreds Homestead in Warrandyte, in March. I'm organising a group for that show.
Q, Who else is perf. with you in the Trio?
I am looking forward to hearing from you in the coming months now that I've joined your e-mail list.
Be COOL 4ever

Hi Ross!
Was gonna ask if your recent 5 Decades Of Cool show in Sydney was to be released on DVD till I read your Nov 27 blog.Hope it went as well as the Melbourne show.
What I will ask is since the show represented how diverse your music's been, has there a particular style of music you've loved but for one reason or another, haven't tried to incorporate it into your recorded work?
Then again, maybe the album you've got lined up for next year has seen you dabble in new musical territory.Hmm....
All the best for the future
Cheers!

Hey ya Ross - Daddy Who? Daddy Cool!
Yes guilty, I did buy your Eagle Rock 45 in 1971 and still have it amongst all your other albums, CDs'.
What we Aussies like about you Ross, is that you are still a gentleman, very talented, and still possess humility. A very rare trait indeed.
Keep up the brilliant work, and really enjoyed your TV appearances as a judge - who better?
Keep rockin man!!

If you read this, were you the blonde lady front row, 2nd seat from end, that I was bopping with, and you kissed Ross's hand? We should have got up to dance earlier, but I did not want to get reprimanded by security. Glad you have discovered Ross....he is the BOSS!

There's only one word for last night - Awsum!!
The best gig I've been to in years. And thankyou for giving Mike Rudd a spot - I'll Be Gone was special and in a funny way created the prelude for the rest of the night.
If they ask for nominations for "Living Legends" you will be at the top of the list.

I really enjoyed your spot on rage, it was the most enjoyable and interesting sets i've seen on the show. Loved the daddy cool videos and and much appreciate your taste in rock n roll. Thanks
