Eagle Rock In NFSA 'Sounds Of Australia'

Daddy Cool's good old 'Eagle Rock' has been selected to be archived in the National Film & Sound Archive's Sounds Of Australia. As well as sitting along side other important Australian songs it'll be there with famous speeches & iconic sound bytes. This link to ABC News tells the story:

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2010/08/24/2992377.htm

While The Daily Telegraph's Kathy McCabe called me direct to find out what I thought:

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/entertainment/were-still-doing-the-eagle-rock/story-e6frewyr-1225909580967

The NFSA's recognition of 'Eagle Rock' conincides with the release of an updated RW 'best of' CD containing songs from Daddy Cool, Mondo Rock and my solo work. Due for release on Shock Records on September 10th the album is called 'Mr Eagle Rock - The Best Of Ross Wilson' - how about that? This was in the works way before we heard about the NSFA's plans for ER or my nomination for a Helpmann Award. Mr Eagle Rock be at the Sydney Opera House on awards night September 6th when '5 Decades Of Cool' runs for the Best Contemporary Music Concert gong.

At the Helpmann Awards (Live Performance Australia) nominations last night my '5 Decades Of Cool' concerts got a 'Best Australian Contemporary Concert' nod along with Tex Perkins 'Man In Black', RockWiz Tour, John Farnham tour, and Dirty 3/Laughing Clowns. Going to Sydney Opera House on Sept 6 for the final countdown and, win or lose, the biggest arty after party in the land. There are 42 categories covering all kinds of live performance - opera, symphonic, drama, musicals, acting, dance - and more. There was good vibe at the nominations & I'm looking forward to awards night.

The other good news is that I Come In Peace slid into the #20 slot this week on the AIR Indie Albums Chart (select the 100% Indie Chart option)

http://www.aircharts.com.au/air-charts/top-20-albums-100-indie

Jeff Jenkins - Howzat

Veteran rock journo Jeff Jenkins always says nice things about me; thanks Jeff. His 'Howzat' column appears in weekly stree press mag 'Inpress' as well as on the 'Living In The Land Of Oz' website run by Lee-Roy Stancliffe of 979fm. Its terrific site which you peruse via my 'Links' page. Meanwhile here's Jeff's report about my album launch & his current Top 5 playlist which includes the 'I Come In Peace' album.

"ROSS'S PEACE OFFERING When Mondo Rock are inducted, Ross Wilson will be our first triple Hall of Famer - he's already in the Hall solo and with Daddy Cool. Ross still knows how to pull a crowd. His album launch at the Toff last week was filled with pretty girls and rock stars (including Daryl Braithwaite, Mike Rudd and Bongo Starkie). Ross remains relevant, proudly stating that he's the only local artist in his 60s (he turns 63 in November) getting commercial radio play with new material. He's constantly updating his repertoire (working ice into Mighty Kong's Hard Drugs, and giving Kevin Rudd a mention in his cover of Ego Is Not A Dirty Word), and his new album, I Come In Peace, is a cracker.

HOWZAT!
Airplay!

For years I've been told by all the powers that be that older artists like me just won't, can't, and will never get commercial radio airplay for their new material. And I gotta say that is the way it has been...until now. I'm not on their official playlist but Melbourne Triple-FM 105.9 are gonna play my new single 'I Come In Peace' tomorrow sometime between 1pm & 1:30pm on their 'Rock Of Ages' segment when I'm interviewed by Lee Simon. One small spin for RW, a giant leap forward for the music biz. Triple-MMM are connecting the dots between the old & the new; they recently had a track from The Hoodoos Gurus latest album on their playlist as well as their oldies. Let's hope its gonna be like that for me too all over the land. On the net the 'I Come In Peace' video is clocking in at #17 on YouTube's 'most played musicians videos' today. Peace!

Keep an eye on this site as we'll have it here on the day of release. It's a killer track & just might make me the very first 62 year old Oz Rock dude to score some commercial airplay; when the time comes you can do your bit by nagging your local DJs & VJs - we'll make history together!!!
